A balanced diet is important if we want to keep healthy. Eating the correct food has many benefits, such as keeping our heart healthy, maintaining our weight and preventing Type 2 Diabetes. Healthy eating doesn’t have to be boring or taste unpleasant. And eating vegetables doesn’t need to be mundane. There is more to healthy eating than a pile of sprouts and broccoli with a roast dinner. You can add chopped celery to a Curry sauce, or grated courgette to a Ragu in Spaghetti Bolognese.
If you struggle with recipe ideas or even if you just want to add some new meals to your menu, you could join our weekly Healthy Eating session between 10.30 and 12.30 every Sunday morning. The link is sent by WhatsApp, and we are currently running the meetings on Zoom.
The session is very casual, and everyone is welcome. We begin with the ingredients shown on screen. Then the chef begins to place the ingredients in the pan, explaining the steps as required. The camera is set up to show a view of the hob while the food is being cooked. Some viewers cook along with the chef at home if they have the ingredients available. But most people like to sit back and watch. Viewers are allowed to ask questions during the session if they wish.
At the end of the session, there is an informal chat between the participants. And there is another chance to ask any questions they may have about the recipe, such as if any of the ingredients can be swapped for another, or which side dish would best accompany the meal. After the session, the ingredients appear on the group WhatsApp for the convenience of the viewers. So, if you wish to try the recipe for yourself, you will have all the information you need.
